Abstract: How can we unlock the hidden value in mixed Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)?
Overview
Every year, the world generates hundreds of millions of tons of mixed Municipal Solid Waste. Transforming this "urban mine" into usable resources has become a significant global environmental challenge. In the European Union, for example, despite a 55% recycling target for municipal waste by 2025, many regions still rely heavily on incineration and landfilling due to persistent technical bottlenecks.
In China, the resource recovery of mixed waste faces similar hurdles. High-value recyclables—such as plastic bottles, cans, and cardboard—are often picked out at the front end by sanitation workers. The remaining mixed waste is often too complex, contaminated, and costly to sort, leaving incineration and landfilling as the only viable, yet wasteful, options.
I. Technical Innovation: The Key to MSW Recovery
While waste sorting at the source is the starting point, the ultimate goal is to maximize the recycling rate of all materials. To achieve this, we must break through the technical barriers of sorting mixed waste. Databeyond utilizes automated, intelligent, and digital sorting technologies to build a complete resource recovery chain:
1.Precision Screening: The process begins with accurate screening, where materials are diverted into large, medium, and small channels for pre-treatment.
2.High-Efficiency Extraction: Databeyond’s AI Optical Sorters then extract high-value recyclables, such as plastics and metals, with high precision.
3.Advanced Polymer Separation: At the heart of the process is the AI Hyperspectral Optical Sorter. It identifies and separates PP, PE, and PET films (used for re-granulation or pyrolysis into fuel) from low-value waste. Crucially, it strictly rejects harmful PVC films to prevent the production of hydrogen chloride or dioxins during downstream processing.
4.Dry-Wet Separation: Finally, the remaining material undergoes dry-wet separation. Dry materials are processed into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), while wet organic waste is used for biogas production via anaerobic digestion or dehydrated for use as fuel.
Through this seamless intelligent sorting flow, Databeyond achieves "Maximum Sorting Efficiency, Near-Zero Landfill," finding a sustainable destination for every piece of waste.
II. Why Choose Databeyond?
Since its inception in 2018, Databeyond has been dedicated to the R&D of intelligent sorting technology, accumulating over 300 national patents. We consistently break technical limits in the most challenging sorting environments.
Today, thousands of Databeyond AI Optical Sorters are serving the global recycling industry across Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Australia, India, Mexico, Panama, Brazil, and Southeast Asia.
